Elements of Diamond Engagement Rings

First we must know what a diamond is. A diamond is the toughest precious stone or gem and that's why it's so favored to everybody particularly to women. It has a lot of colours. The most typical colour is drab. It has its grade, depend on the lucidity of the diamond.
Many people have heard that diamond is women’s best buddy. Most women dream about having a diamond pendant, ring, bracelet or earrings. A tiny diamond stone will do, but what's most critical is the individual that gives that dear gem.
Women’s dream when they have an engagement, if at all possible it's a diamond ring. Sizes don’t always matter to them. Instead it is dependent on what they can realistically expect to get.
As has been claimed before diamonds are for all time. Most guys who give an engagement band give one with a diamond stone. The most common shape is the round shape diamond.
A lady or women as what some says is as valuable as a diamond. As we all know, diamond is a dear kind of gem. It's also so fragile. Every woman who receives a diamond engagement ring feels great. For them, they're valuable to the man who gives them that diamond ring.
What a feeling. For many ladies, it has always been their dream to have one given by the man whom they like and who loves them too. When a woman receives a diamond engagement band, they are so happy to show it to their pals and if at all possible shout to the world that they have one given by their young man.
There are different types of shape or cuts in the diamond gemstone for rings, namely:
– Round shape
– Oval shape
– Square shape
– Rectangular shape
– Diamond shape
– Heart shape
The round shapes are the most typical diamond engagement ring. Not all diamond engagement bands are pricey though. Diamond precious stone depends on the clearness and the shape or cuts of the diamond precious stone. It also is dependent upon how massive is the precious stone. They scale that in carats.
For women who receive a diamond engagement ring from their boyfriend are called lucky. Not all men can afford to buy one for their fiance, you all know that.
But some men, for them to buy diamond engagement ring for their fiance, they do save and work hard for it, in order for them to buy one for the lucky woman or lady to whom they adore most with all of their heart.
If you're curious about diamonds, diamond engagement rings could be a great addition to you.

Tips for CLEANING AND STORING YOUR DIAMOND JEWELRY

If you own precious jewelry like your favorite diamond studs or that beautiful diamond pendant, and yes your diamond ring, you need to take good care of them so that you can enjoy them for the lifetime of joy they were meant to bring. That means proper cleaning and proper storage are both very important.

Cleaning your diamond jewelry is necessary to remove the dirt and oil that builds up and then causes the diamonds to look dull and unattractive. Lotions, dust, hair styling products, and all kinds of gunk build up and if you do not clean your diamond jewelry it is just going to start to look awful. You can take it in to the jewelers to have it cleaned but you can just as easily clean it at home.

To clean your diamond jewelry you need mild liquid dish soap like Ivory and some warm water. There are also commercial cleaning solutions on the market that you can buy.

Soak the jewelry for a while to loosen up the dirt and grime and then using a really soft brush clean the stones while the jewelry is still in the solution. If there is grime stuck you can use a needle or toothpick to remove it.

Rinse thoroughly and then wipe with a lint free cloth. You can clean all your diamond jewelry this way and while you are at it check clasps and claws to make sure everything is secure. You would not want to loose a stone.

You can store your diamond jewelry in your jewelry box but you must make sure that it is not rubbing together or the gold will become scratched. You can use soft jewelry cloth to keep the items separate. Make sure the box is dry and free of moisture. And of course make sure it is safe.

Proper storage means that they will be safely tucked away. Do not make a habit of leaving diamond jewelry lying near the sink or on a dresser. It does not take much for one earring to become lost.

You can buy diamond stud earrings online for such excellent prices that everybody should have at least one pair. Sites likeEngagement Rings or  Diamonds have an excellent inventory that you cannot help but find the perfect pair for you.

And with proper cleaning and storing they will last you forever!

A Good Diamond Cut characteristics

A good diamond cut has many characteristics:

Diamond Width and Depth

The proportions of width and depth have a large impact on diamond brilliance, the reflection of white light that we see when we look at a diamond. Refer to the graphic on this page as you read the following descriptions.
  • Light traveling through a shallow cut diamond is lost out of the bottom of the stone and does not back into sight. The lack of light play makes shallow cut diamonds appear lifeless.
  • Light traveling through a diamond that's cut too deep escapes out the sides, darkening all or portions of the stone.
  • Light traveling through an ideal cut diamond bounces back out the top of the stone, bringing its brilliance into view.
The graphic illustrates extremes. As with other diamond characteristics, there are are in-betweens for cut quality.

Diamond Symmetry

Symmetry is a term that refers to the alignment of a diamond's facets, its flat and polished surfaces. The facets should be cut to achieve the best play of light.
You've seen diamonds flash when you move them in the light--that effect is called scintillation, and it occurs when light bounces among the facets. Light doesn't reflect as it should if facets are misaligned, diminishing the fireworks display.
Diamonds graded Fair and Poor for symmetry usually have facets that are misaligned enough to affect the play of light.

Diamond Polish

The surface of the facets should be smooth and polished so that light can pass through them.

Common Problems with Diamond Cuts

  • A broken or chipped culet.
  • A culet that's missing or one that's off center.
  • Misaligned or extra facets.
  • girdle that is too thick, creating poor proportions, or too thin, making it easier to damage.
  • A fringed girdle, with tiny cracks going into the diamond.
  • table that slopes to one side.
Always buy diamonds from a reputable jeweler and ask questions about diamond characteristics. Inspect as many diamonds as possible so that you can make good comparisons.                                                                                                                                                                                                        posted by : Wholesale Diamond

Which Setting Makes the Diamond on Your Engagement Ring Look Larger?

The diamond on your ring is embedded with the help of a very important factor known as ‘Setting’ which can have a huge impact on the appearance of the diamond. It may help the diamond to look larger or may even make it appear much smaller than its actual deservingness.

But by doing a good study of settings, you can actually make the diamond on the engagement ring look larger. Here are a few settings and their effects on the diamond’s appearance you should know before you do your engagement ring shopping.

Pave Setting of diamonds is like a wide surface of many small diamonds that make the surface sparkle but actually lie side by side costing you much lesser than one huge diamond or many diamonds in any other setting.

Prong setting is recommended for maximum security and brilliance as it makes the diamond appear deeper and lets maximum light enter inside, though it is not advised for making the diamonds look larger.

Illusion setting is basically a ring-like flat plate that surrounds the girdle of the diamond along with prongs, but it appears like the girdle is wide and makes the diamond appear larger with more brilliance if it’s a sparkling plate around.

Bezel setting is where rim thoroughly encircles the diamond hiding its side surface. But the magic of making it look larger is created by the metal rim beside.

It is also suggested to look for shallow cut diamonds as well as fancy shapes except round and princess that look larger on a ring, mostly elongated shapes like marquise, oval and pear.

Why To Choose a Radiant Cut Diamond?

The Radiant Cut Diamond is considered the grandfather of the modern day fancy cut with a history of over 20 years. The popularity of the diamond comes from the fact that it was the first diamond to have the pavilion faceted. The radiant cut, also known by the terms a cut-cornered and also by GIA as a square modified brilliant, typically has 70 facets. The radiant cut of diamond is a square shaped cut however as sharp edges are a point of weakness in the gem, cutters have truncated the edges.

The appearance of the diamond is of a very unique sparkle this comes from the fact it is a mixed cut, thereby having characteristics of both the step cut diamonds and of the brilliant cut diamonds. The defining characteristic however, is the truncating of the corners. It is this which enables it to be easily distinguished from the princess cut another mixed cut.

Since the popularisation of the princess the radiant cut has seen its own popularity fall somewhat. This is down to the princess cuts higher fire and brilliance than that of the radiant cut. They are both mixed cuts and both also are referred to as the square modified brilliant, however the princess has fewer facets and is without truncated edges.

When buying a radiant cut diamond it is recommended that you try to purchase one within the ratio of 1.5 as this is will result in the greatest sparkle. It has however became more and more popular over recent years to have a squarer shape which would obviously take the ratio down nearer to one.

The main use of the radiant diamond is as the centre of a ring typically with round brilliants or baguettes flanking. The strong appearance of the diamond makes it more versatile than either the emerald or princess cut its main rivals.

Know Your Diamonds

Diamonds tend to be the traditional engagement ring choice, because they are enduring, and match everything. Only deviate from a diamond if you know that your girlfriend loves another stone much, much more, or has voiced her intense dislike of diamonds. When choosing a diamond, be aware of the "Four C's", as follows:

* Carat: This refers to the unit measurement of the diamond, and refers to weight (not size). Every carat has 100 points. Engagement rings are often 1 carat but the ring you choose will obviously depend on your budget. A 1 carat ring on a limited budget may not rate very highly in other areas, taking away from its overall beauty.

 * Color: The color of diamonds varies considerably and most people prefer a very white colored diamond for an engagement ring. Colors are graded from D (colorless and rare) and most good quality diamonds will be around F and H and grades D to I are acceptable to buy as they are almost identical when mounted.

 * Clarity: Being natural, there will be imperfections in the diamond. The less imperfections, the greater the clarity and the more light is reflected from the diamond, causing it to "sparkle". Naturally, more clarity increases its value. Perfectly flawless diamonds with no internal flaws or surface blemishes are very hard to find as they are extremely rare. Fewer flaws in a diamond result in greater brilliance as more light is reflected.

o The scale used to grade clarity goes from F1 for a flawless diamond, to VVS1 and VVS2 for very slight inclusions, to VS1 and VS2 for very slight inclusions, SI1 and SI2 for slight inclusions and I1, I2 and I3 for imperfect diamonds.
o Diamonds are magnified by 10 times to judge their clarity so very slight imperfections are difficult to see with the naked eye. This means that there is a range of diamonds available even for more modest budgets. If you can see a mark without magnification, however, think carefully before you buy. The location and darkness of an imperfection of any given grade (though probably not any "VVS" inclusion, which is simply too small, and rarely a VS inclusion) can affect its visibility so it is safest to see the imperfection magnified or in a magnified photograph before buying.

* Cut: There are different ways to cut a diamond, and the type of cut impacts the sparkle of the diamond. The cut that produces the most sparkle is the round (or brilliant) cut, while radiant and princess cuts are good at hiding flaws. Other cuts including square, emerald, pear, marquise, cushion, Asscher, and heart-shaped. The oval shape looks best with larger stones, and looks bigger than the round cut. A high-quality cut (not necessarily above "Ideal") is more important than weight or an extremely high clarity or color grade: a diamond, like a road reflector, shines light back out the direction it came in and breaks it up a bit in the process. If the sides are ground at the wrong angles (sometimes through less-than-perfect workmanship, sometimes to increase weight with extra width or depth) quite a bit of light will not shine back out the right way--much more than would be lost to a very faint yellowish or brown tint or a speck visible under a loupe.
